Moehnyin in Kachin State got record rainfall of 190 milliliter (7.48 inches) on August 27 within 49 years period and over 70 families had to move to safer places from their homes according to sources.
“We got heavy rain from 3:00 am to 9:00 am. Nant Yin creek water level reached 496 cm immediately. The danger water level of Nant Yin creek is 500 cm. The town was flooded because the drainages were too shallow. The building of roads cost a fortune but the drainages were too small, narrow or shallow compared with the roads,” said U Thaung Win from Moehnyin DMH.
Due to heavy rain and flood, fish breeding ponds were flooded. Moenhyin got heavy rainfall 5 times in 2022 where roads and bridges were destroyed, and cultivation lands wee ruined.
