MAWLAMYAING-World Migratory Bird Day -2019 (WMBD) was held at the Basic Education High School in Pyinbon Gyi village, Moe Yun Gyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary which is a Ramsar region in Bago Region on October 22nd.

It was jointly organized by Forest Department in Bago Region and Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Association-BANCA, according to Field Officer Thaw Phyo Shwe.

“The motto of the WMBD is “Protect Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution”. The motto pointed out to the migratory birds’ original places where there had been plastic pollution. Moreover, the ceremony aims for the public to know about the plastic pollution which is in danger of losing rare birds,” said Thaw Phyo Shwe.

Myanmar had to hold the World Migratory Bird Day event twice per year so also the welcoming ceremony of Winter Birds is held every May 11th and the ceremony to see off the winter birds was held on October 12th.

Thaw Phyo Shwe also said that Belin Township, Mon State, welcomed the winter birds on May 11th. Although plans were underway to see off the winter birds on October 12th , the winter birds were seen off only on October 22nd because it was timed to coincide with the Thadigyut period.

The officials from Moe Yun Gyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary reported about the knowledge of Moe Yun Gyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary and showed the educational video for finding the solutions of plastic pollution.
