Mizoram Police have arrested five individuals, including a leader of the Myanmar-based Chin National Front (CNF), during a major operation that resulted in the largest arms seizure in the state’s history.

In collaboration with an intelligence agency, the police conducted the operation on the outskirts of Saithah village, under the jurisdiction of West Phaileng Police Station in Mamit district.

The seized cache included six long guns, 1,050 rounds of ammunition, and 13 cartridges. Authorities stated that this crackdown sends a strong message to those involved in illegal activities and highlights the potential threat to regional peace and stability.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were intended for an arms trade between the CNF and the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF-P), a rebel group operating in Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts.

The arrest of a CNF leader is being hailed as a significant step in combating insurgency in Mizoram.
