Ministry to take interim census in about 4,300 sample plots

Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population will take the nationwide interim census in about 4,300 sample plots across the country in November.

An official of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population said: “The interim census-taking aims to review the rapidly changing socio-economic status and fulfill the real-time statistical needs, before the population and household census in 2024.”

The interim census-taking will take around 14 days and aims to get the district-level indexes. The ministry plans to release it in June, 2020.

It includes four-stage processes—preparation, collection, compilation and review and report.

On April 1, 2019, the total population in Myanmar hit 54.10 million, according to Department of Population under the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population.

The department calculated the number of populations, based on the figures of the 2014 nationwide.

According to the estimation, there was a population of 1,881,362 in Kachin State, 320,216 in Kayah State, 1,605,697 in Kayin State, 516,752 in Chin State, 5,550,389 in Sagaing Region, 1,479,086 in Tanintharyi Region, 4,934,428 in Bago Region, 3,937,278 in Magway Region, 6,477,740 in Mandalay Region, 1,995,068 in Mon State,  3,325,116 in Rakhine State, 8,203,832 in Yangon Region,  6,332,188 in Shan State, 6,272,913 in Ayeyawady Region and 1,269,188 in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.

The total number of populations reached 54,101,253—25,948,889 males and 28,152,364 females, according to the Department of Population.
