The Ministry of Health and Sports will conduct the demographic and health survey (2020-2021) in cooperation with the ICF.

The ministry started conducting the social and health survey in 2015-2016. The 2nd basic survey will cover around 100 clusters. The survey will ask verbal questions over the cause of death. It also includes field studies, designation of survey plots, the compilation of survey questions and giving training to those who will be involved in the survey.

The ministry will select those who can speak different languages and release the survey in 2021.

According to the survey (2015-2016), more than 80 per cent of females received health care from the health experts during their pregnancy.  Only 59 per cent of women received pregnancy health care four times and above. Child births with the help of experts are around 60 per cent while 37 per cent of live births are at health departments.

The birth rate in the developing countries including Myanmar significantly declined to 3.9 per woman in 2019 from 5.6 in 1994, according to the figures released on the day to mark the World Population Day.

In Myanmar, the average birth rate is 2.3 per woman. Chin State tops the list of birth rate with 4.6 per woman while Yangon and Magway Region see the lowest birth rate with 1.8 per woman.

The Ministry of Health and Sports conducted the survey (2015-2016) with the funds provided by

the USAID and 3 MDGs and technical assistance by the ICF.
