Ministry performs more laboratory tests for COVID-19

Yangon—Till noon of 21 March since 31 January, there have been 199 persons under investigation and two suspected patients, according to the statement by the Ministry of Health and Sports on 21 March.

Of them, 187 patients tested negative for virus, 14 people are pending results and 114 others have been discharged from the respective hospitals. Twelve patients who tested negative for the virus died from other diseases such as chronic diabetes, TB, kidney, chronic liver disease, chronic lung disease, blood poisoning and diarrhea.  

From 31 January to 21 March, the number of persons under investigation (PUI) and suspected patients reached 201—85 in Yangon Region, 33 in Mandalay Region, 29 in Shan State and 54 in other regions and states.

So far, 81 persons placed under hospital quarantine tested negative for coronavirus.

The ministry is performing more laboratory tests to ensure the early detection of COVID-19.

There have been no confirmed cases in Myanmar yet. In an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the government has ordered to prohibit mass gatherings, events, festivals and closed schools, bars and KTVs nationwide until 30 April.

On 21 March, the ministry prepared to turn Theinbyu boxing stadium in Yangon into a quarantine facility where around 150 returnees from Bodh Gaya will be placed under quarantine.

The ministry is preparing to covert sports stadiums in Hlegu, Dagon Seikkan, South Dagon and North Dagon Townships into the quarantine facilities for more than 1,000 returnees from Bodh Gaya.
