YANGON-Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing may be meeting with the leaders from 40 political parties in Nay Pyi Taw today, according to the political parties who will participate in the meeting with the military chief.

“I heard that there were 39 political parties which assumed that the General Elelction-2020 will not be free and fair. They also believe that the Union Election Commission is very biased. So, they can’t believe in the union election commission,” said Thein Nyunt, Chairman of New National Democracy Party who will also attend the meeting with the military chief.

Dr Nandar Hla Myint, a spokesperson of Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), said that the USDP didn’t lead the meeting but the office of Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services had invited the political parties.

“We don’t know which parties were invited. Khin Maung Swe from the National Democratic Force phoned me. I replied that we didn’t attend the meeting because the election is close. Moreover, we told him that we would be thinking what to do after the election,” said Sia Aik Pao, Chairman of Shan Nationalities Democratic Party.

Military Spokesperson Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun told the BBC news agency that he didn’t know about the detailed policy on invitation of the military chief.

Officials from some political parties also said that they didn’t know where the meeting will be held. But, the meeting may be held at the Bayinnaung Guest House situated in the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services’ office.

It is the second time multiple parties met with the military chief.

The leader of 32 political parties including the USDP met with the military chief on March 22nd, 2019.
