The nationwide maximum power production declined by 37 megawatts, according to the statement by the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

The total power production declined from 3,341 MW on September 14 to 3,204 MW on October 14.

On October 14, the power consumption by Yangon Region reached 1,129 MW, over 499 MW by Mandalay Region, 122 MW by Nay Pyi Taw Council Area and 1,209 by other regions and states.

Currently, Myanmar can produce around 3,800 MW. The ministry plans to increase its electricity production to around 3,000 MW in the next three years, said Union Minister for Electricity and Energy Win Khaing on March 16.

From early January to early May, 2019, the nationwide power production declined by over 250 MW when the maximum power production figures were compared.

Myanmar’s annual power demand has increased at a rate of around 19 per cent per year. Currently, the increasing power demand is between 300 MW and 500 MW. The ministry can fully satisfy the country’s increasing power demand through the short-and long-term measures.

Under the National Electricity Plan, Myanmar has set a goal of electrifying the whole country by 2030.

There are 50 State-and private-owned power plants with an installed capacity of over 5,600 MW. Over 4.9 million out of over 10.8 million households have electricity access. The ministry is working to electrify up to 50 per cent of the households at the end of 2019, said Deputy Minister for Electricity and Energy Dr. Tun Naing.
