Three children were drowned in a single day due to the flood occurred in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, according to the local sources.
Those victims lived in Thiri Myaing and Thiri Mingalar Wards in Mawlamyine Township.
The neighbouring residents said that the bodies of two children were found at the lower part of No.8 Street in Thiri Myaing Ward yesterday noon.
“We knew that the children drowned after swimming into the drain situated in the lower part of No.8 Street in Thiri Myaing Ward. The water looked quite deep at the drain because the drains were maintained before the rainy season,” said a local.
The bodies of two children were sent to the Mawlamyine Hospital by the social welfare association.
Moreover, around 2-year-old baby from lower part of No.17 Street of Thiri Mingalar Ward in Mawlamyine Township drowned after falling into the water.
The incident took place around afternoon of July 19 in which one and half-year-old baby went missing as the baby stayed together with grandparents. So, the grandparents searched the baby however the baby was found death.
“The water level was about 4-feet deep. No one knew when the baby went missing. So, the guardians searched the baby but the baby was found death in the water,” said one of the neighbouring residents.
Mawlamyine Township got new record rainfall during 70 years and there have been floodings in the Mon State.
