A press conference regarding the seizure of large quantities of materials used in illicit drug manufacturing and equipment used for online gambling and scam operations in Hsipaw and Mongyai townships of northern Shan State is being held this morning (January 14) at the airport lounge near the Anisakan base in Pyin Oo Lwin Township in Mandalay Region.
Attending the press conference are Union Minister for Home Affairs Deputy Senior General Tun Tun Naung; spokesperson of the National Defence and Security Council, Major General Zaw Min Tun; Myanmar Police Force Chief, Deputy Police Chief Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe; Anti-Narcotics Police Force Chief, Police Major General Thant Lwin Maung; senior police officials; Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ko Ko Kyaw and officials; military attachés and diplomats from foreign embassies; as well as local and international media representatives.
According to estimates based on the chemical substances seized in Hsipaw and Mongyai townships in Northern Shan State on January 9, 10 and 11, 2026, it is estimated that approximately 810 million methamphetamine tablets with a street value of around 1.62 trillion kyats could have been produced.
Authorities stated that the drug-manufacturing-related materials seized in this operation represent the largest such seizure in Myanmar’s history.
