A man was arrested together with two homemade rocket launchers as he prepared to fire into the Mandalay Palace on June 24, local sources said.

The 20-year-old man was captured together with two 107mm homemade rockets after authorities found him suspicious with a paper carton he was carrying.

Further search led to the discovery of a place where two bags of sand were kept on the top floor of Thiri Mingalar Housing in Seiktaramahi Ward between 26th and 27th streets and 73rd and 74th streets in Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay Region. The place was to be used for aiming and firing a homemade rocket into the palace.

On May 7 also, two homemade rockets were found at the corner of 66th Street and 15th Street in Dawnabwa Ward to the east of the Mandalay moat in Aungmyaythazan Township. They were discovered by an officer from Mandalay Region Bureau of Special Investigation.
