A low pressure area in Bay of Bengal may turn into a small storm today (May 15) and morph into a cyclonic storm on May 16, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).
“At present, it has moved from south of Andaman Sea and south-east of Bay of Bengal to north-west. Now, it enters south-east of Bay of Bengal. Currently, it is just a low pressure area. On May 15, it will become a small storm and on May 16, it will change into a cyclonic storm. On May 17, it will move to north-eastern part and as a result, Myanmar may get rain on May 19 and May 20,” said Dr. Kyaw Moe Oo, Director-General of DMH.
According to the observations made on May 14 at 1:30 pm by DMH, a low pressure area formed over the south-east Bay of Bengal may persist. It may intensify in the next 24 hours and change into a small storm in the south of Bay of Bengal within 48 hours. It may change into a cyclonic storm. Then, it is likely to move north-west wards initially and then after May 17, it will turn into north-northeast and move to north of Bay of Bengal.
The storms occurred in Bay of Bengal in April, May, October and November and depressions usually occur in the monsoon season in the north of Bay of Bengal. Storms occurred in pre and post rainy seasons caused major destructions.
