A monk died and two other monks were wounded when a mine planted near Nyaunghla village in Myitchay station, Pakokku township, Magway Region, exploded, according to a statement released by the information team of the State Administration Council on October 18.

The mine explosion occurred when the three monks from Sasana Vamsa Monastery in the compound of Maha Visodha Rama Monastery went in a black Nissan to visit the house of one of them at about 2pm on October 16. They were going along Pakokku-Seikphyu Road. When the car arrived about 50 meters from the entrance to Nyaunghla village, it stepped on a landmine triggering an explosion and wounding them, the statement said.

The three were then sent to Myitchay station hospital for medical treatment. But one of the monks named U Nanda Cariya died later of injuries, the statement added.
