A 12-year-old boy died after stepping on a landmine in Wadatkwin Village, Theinzayet, Khaikhto Township, Mon State, on July 14, local sources said.

The incident happened while Maung Aye Chan Thakhin was herding cattle at about 6 am on July 14.   

“The boy died of severe injuries in the legs and thighs. His body was sent to Theinzayet Station Hospital by a local social welfare association,” said a local villager.

The body was cremated on July 15, according to local sources.

Local sources say that there have been frequent landmine explosions in the townships of Kyaikhto, Bili and Ye in Mon State causing casualties.
