Landmine explosion kills two novices and injuries one on Sagaing-Shwebo Road

Two of the three novices are died in a landmine explosion on the Sagaing-Shwebo road and one was rushed to Mandalay General Hospital, according to locals.

The incident took place after 8:30 am on April 21. The three victims were teenagers.

"I heard a loud noise on the road in the morning and when I looked up as I saw the smoke rising, I saw three novices are lying," said an eyewitness.

They were taken to Sagaing General Hospital, but two died at the hospital. Another was taken to Mandalay Hospital, according to locals.

"Two novices were pronounced dead at the hospital. The explosion hit their heads. The other was taken to Mandalay General Hospital,” said a local.

The two deceases were identified as Shin Thaw Nanda and Shin Dhammananda from Yankin Sandamuni Monastery in Thein Chaung Village, Saltaung Township.

The State Administration Council has also issued a statement regarding the incident, and security forces are conducting the operation in the area.
