Karen National Union (KNU) is holding 6th emergency meeting of Central Permanent Committee to find obstacles, which are interfering to implement nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA), from November 6, announced the KNU.

Karen National Union Headquarters, a Facebook page of the KNU, wrote a post on November 6 that although a special meeting between leaders of the government and ethnic armed groups, which signed the NCA, decided to hold Union Peace Conference - 21st Century Panglong three times to settle democracy and federal principles, they are still needed to find a solution to solve the disagreements.

On the other hand, there are still facts which haven’t implemented in line with NCA’s agreements and they will be discussed the issues in the five-day emergency meeting held from November 6 to 10, it said.

General Mutu Say Poe, Chairman of the KNU, sent a letter to Aung San Suu Kyi, Chair of National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) on October 27 and wrote there will be responsibilities, accountabilities and transparency by individuals as the KNU is an organization based on the democracy norms.

It wrote they will present the issues, agreed in the meeting between leaders of the government and ethnic armed groups, in the KNU’s meeting.

So the KNU is temporarily suspended its activities in peace process as they have to present dialogues and decisions of the peace process to all of its members and Karen people and to need time to have agreement from them.

Although political analysts are concerned about it as the news about the letter spread around in social media, the KNU said they are resolute to continue to implement peace process based on the NCA.

General Saw Johnny, Chief of Staff of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), General Baw Kyaw Heh, Vice Chief of Staff of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and military leaders from KNU No.7 Division are attended the meeting.
