The Kayin State Border Guard Force (BGF) has been arresting and deporting people involved in human trafficking in the northern part of Myawady Township on the Myanmar-Thailand border since the morning of February 14.
Three teams were formed on February 13 to investigate and crack down on human trafficking in Myawady Township, a BGF officer said.
“The mission to investigate and take action against people involved in human trafficking activities began today. We will investigate and deport them in batches. Tomorrow, 69 people will be sent back from the Friendship Bridge. We want to send them back as many as possible and quickly. Thailand says it will accept 500 people a day. Myanmar nationals will return to their own places. There are also people who are selling things to Myanmar nationals in Shwe Kokko. These are regular occurrences, and the main thing is to crack down on human trafficking,” said Lt. Col. Nai Maung Zaw, a member of the anti-human trafficking and repatriation team.
He added that the investigation and arrest of those involved in the human trafficking business is being carried out quickly.
Similarly, 260 foreigners who had arrived in Kyauk Khat Village, south of Myawady, were handed over to Thailand by the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) on the evening of February 12.
A total of 260 foreigners: 221 men and 39 women from various countries who were working or being cheated in the human trafficking business were sent back to Thailand by the DKBA and Thai military accepted them.
