The Kachin State Government has provided more than 5,000 bags of rice to internally displaced people (IDPs) staying in 41 temporary displacement camps in Kachin State.

The aid distribution ceremonies were held at the Manaw Shwe Pyi Hall in Myitkyina on August 29 and September 1. Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan handed over the rice to displaced residents.

A total of 2,345 households, comprising 11,927 people from 21 displacement camps in Waingmaw Township, received 2,345 bags of rice, worth more than 220 million kyats. Another 1,694 households from 20 camps in Myitkyina were provided with one bag of rice per household, with the assistance valued at more than 110 million kyats.

The Chief Minister said the state government would continue providing assistance as much as possible to ease the basic living difficulties faced by displaced people. He added that the authorities would work with relevant departments to address their needs.

The latest assistance was provided to temporary displacement camps in Wards 3, 4 and 5 of Waingmaw, as well as camps in Mutlaw, Hkatcho, Maingna and Naungtalaw, and temporary camps in Wuyang village tract.

The displaced people receiving assistance came from areas including Lamyan, Madain, Shwe Nyaungbin, Mutlaw, Aung Myay (1) and (2), Naung Si Par, Garayang, Kazoo, Nam San Yang, Dabeyang, Malanyang, Wa Shaung, Nant Wa, Din Janyan, Chipwi, Sawlaw, Bhamaw, Injanyang and Sadone.

The displaced residents expressed their gratitude for the assistance and also shared information about the difficulties they are currently facing.

In previous years, the Kachin State Government also provided rice, cooking oil, eggs and instant noodles to temporary displacement camps in Waingmaw Township.
