The number of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is increasing in Myanmar.

The JLPT for 2023 was held on December 3 in Yangon and Mandalay. In Yangon, the venues for JLPT are Yangon University, Hlaing Campus, Law department, Science department, Pinlong hall and Computer Science hall. In Mandalay, JLPT test was held in KMC private school.

“To get a job in Japan, Japanese language proficiency is a must and therefore, youths are sitting in the JLPT. If they pass, they can go Japan and work there. There are many people taking the test,” said a man planning to go to Japan.

There is a huge gap in salaries earned in Myanmar and in Japan and South Korea. As a result, many youth desire to work in Japan and South Korea. To be able to work in these countries, language proficiency is very important and so many young people are attending Japan and Korean languages in hope of getting better salaries.
