Jade export earnings reached US$402 million in the six-month mini budget period from April to September this year, exceeding US$196 million compared to the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

In six months, mineral products worth US$1,035 million were exported exceeding US$369 million compared to the same period of last year.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, the government allotted over 1,240 mining blocks, small, medium and large, including test-run blocks in various regions and states till September this year.

Soe Thura Tun, chairman of the Lower House committee for natural resources and environmental conservation, said there were delays in allotting mining blocks in regions and states due to the drafting of a mining by-law and environmental conservation law.

A new mining rule was imposed on February 13 this year. In accord with this by-law, regions and states will have authority to allot and manage small-scale and manageable-scale mining blocks. Applications have been invited for those mining blocks.
