As the water level of the Bilin River is above the danger level, according to the measurement made 7am today, there have been floods in the low-lying areas of Bilin town and on the lower reaches of the river in Mon State, local sources say.
Alu Lay village in the township needs emergency rescue and relief work as it is in food, according to a local resident.
“The tide has been increasing gradually since last night. This morning, all the low-lying areas have been flooded. Some people are going to hilly areas. Until this morning, no one has come for rescue and relief,” he said.
Moreover, low-lying areas in Kanthaya, Saya San and Po Hla Gyi wards and Shwe Hlay and Daukyat villages are in flood now.
“Social aid organizations in cooperation with the Township Fire Services Department are carrying out search and rescue tasks. Currently, the flood victims need drinking water and food,” said an official from a social welfare association based in Bilin.
With the Bilin River level increasing, there have been evacuations in Donwun village-tract in Thaton Township on the lower reaches.
According to the forecast of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the river water level will reach one foot above the danger level in the first three days of August.
