According to information released by the Illegal Trade Eradication Committee on July 10, more than 300 million kyats’ worth of illegal timber of various kinds, foodstuffs, household goods, chemical substances, mobile phones, and motor vehicles were seized in some states and regions.
As the inspection team was carrying out inspection task at the Meiyan combined inspection centre in Tachilek township on July 6, they seized a truck, valued at about 20 million kyats, with Ks1,263,900 worth illegal teak timber and 1.915 tons of teak parquet hidden under locally produced foodstuffs.
While the inspection team at the Asia World container yard in Yangon Region was on inspection task on July 7 they seized Ks50,940,000 worth of medical supplements that had been more than the amount stated in the import invoice. Likewise the inspection team at the airport warehouse in Yangon International Airport seized K381840 worth Triisoctylamine which was not in conformity with the amount mentioned in the import invoice.
In addition, on July 7, the inspection team at the Myanmar Industrial Port in Yangon Region seized Ks45,705,500 worth household goods that were in excess of the amount mentioned in the import invoice along with Servo Botton Machine and Cutter Machine. On July 8 K22,979,000 worth Cutting Machine and clothing that were not in agreement with the import invoice, so that the total amount seized was K68,684,500.
On July 8 in Mon State while the inspection team was on random check at the Mayanchaung permanent inspection gate they found and seized Ks19,150,000 worth of forbidden import item of ownerless Tiger and Corona Extra beer piled on the roadside on Yangon-Myawady Highway.
Likewise in Thayarwady District, Bago Region, Ks6,177,024 worth illegal teak and pyingado weighing 16.96 tons were seized.
On July 9 at the Letpanhla-Sintgu temporary inspection gate a 12-wheeled truck, valued at 13 million kyats, with mobile phones worth Ks127,840,000 without any legal documents were seized, so that the total amounted to Ks140,840,000. A total of 15 cases were exposed with the amount seized being Ks307,437,264.
