As part of effort for prevention and control of illegal trade, Myanmar was able to seize the contraband goods worth over Ks15 billion from September 2018 to October 2019, but the value of seizures of illegal goods since then till January 2020 reached over Ks9  billion bringing the total value to over Ks24 billion, said Vice President Myint Swe.

Till January this year, there were 2,709 rounds of seizures worth Ks24.162 billion.

The Vice President disclosed information during the 32nd meeting between the Private Sector Development Committee and local businesspeople.

From September 2018 to October 2019, there 1,065 rounds of seizures of illegal goods worth over K15 billion, but the amount of the seizures was still little, the Vice President commented during the 31st meeting.

Myanmar was ranked 82 of 84 countries in the Global Illicit Trade Environment Index 2018.

Myanmar had 23 points with the rank of 82 among 84 countries, the Vice President quoted the index published by The Economist Intelligence Unit.

As anti-illicit trade special task forces were not able to work effectively in nine states and regions, the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee had been established, and the government had vowed to fight and eliminate illegal trade, he added.
