MAWLAMYAING- The collapse of Malatt mountain in Paung Township on 9 January will turn five months soon and 23 houses are under construction for resettlement, says Win Zaw, an administrator in Ye Pyar Kone village, Paung Township.
He also said that the houses were being built at the Natsinkone village, about 400-ft distance beside the Yangon-Mawlamyaing motor road.
“The Malatt mountain collapse will turn five months on January 9th. The victims are now collectively sheltering at their relatives. So, they have difficulties. Now, the Mon State Government Committee is constructing the concrete road as well as they are building one-storied homes for the landslide victims. Plans are underway to replace the victims at the Natsinkone village in January. Transformers were built and then the Border Affairs Department already dug the artesian wells. If the victims will be patient, they will be convenient everything,” said Win Zaw.
“We were tasked to construct 12 brick buildings. The remaining 11 brick buildings will be built by Mon National Entrepreneurs. The cost of a building is Ks 12 million. The construction works started on November 13th. The Mon State Chief Minister told that the buildings must be handed over on January 15th. But, there will be a few days for finishing works. It is a steel structure RC-Concrete type building. It’s 60-ft wide and 80-ft long,” said Phone Myint, In-Charge of Myanmar Constructor Association (Mon National).
Authorities will also provide Ks 5 million each to the household aiming to invest in their livelihood.
There are also debris and other broken things piled in the fields. However, no authorities had allowed for the removal and the locals had requested it to be done so.
