Extended HDU and oxygen therapy wards, advance laboratories and hostels for doctors are being built in a rush at Covid-19 Treatment Center (Phaunggyi) in Yangon Region.
The center still has 36 ICU patients although hospitalizations have decreased by half.
There were 411 Covid-19 patients including 36 ICU patients at the center till November 30. Seventeen were discharge on that day.
One hundred oxygen points more each have been installed at Yangon East District Hospital, West District Hospital, Insein Hospital and Thingangyun Hospital.
Likewise, oxygen pipelines are being extended at Phaunggyi treatment center and North Oakkalapa Hospital as they see rising cases, said Dr Ko Ko Naing, medical superintendent of Covid-19 Treatment Center (Phaunggyi).
“Thanks to the very first establishment of Phaunggyi center, we had time to prepare more other centers. While Phaunggyi center could house about 1,200 patients, other centers were being built one after another. First, we had to struggle with infected patients daily. We can now house over 10,000 patients. So we can operate regularly if we have over 1,000 cases daily. As cases increase, we are also extending oxygen pipelines. Liquid tanks have been prepared at North Oakkalapa Hospital. At Phaunggyi also, two wards for 120 patients and oxygen pipelines for 240 patients have been prepared,” Dr Ko Ko Naing said.
Infection rate in Yangon Region is still 60 percent above while 20 to 30 percent of Covid-19 positive patients lose their sense of smell, according to the Region Public Health Department.
Nationwide, there are 24 Covid-19 treatment centers under the Ministry of Health and Sports. Moreover, district and township people’s hospitals are also upgrading themselves to treat Covid-19 patients.
