Govt. treasury bonds worth Ks1,252.90 billion sold in 2020-2021 FY

Three-year and five-year government treasury bonds worth 1,252.90 billion kyats in the fiscal year 2020-2021 under competitive bidding system in eleven sales, according to a monetary policy report released by the Central Bank of Myanmar.

On behalf of the Ministry of Planning and Finance, the CBM is engaging in sales of government treasury bonds in order to promote pubic saving through which government budget deficits could be funded and encourage short- and long-term investment.

Sales of treasury bonds started in September in 2016 under scripless system without fixing interest rates.

There were eleven sales of three-year and five-year government treasury bonds worth Ks1,252.90 billion in the 2020-2022 FY.

Moreover, the CBM took charge of selling three-month, six-month and one-year government securities certificates in January 2015 in order to directly fund government budget deficits and ensure an effective loan management. 

In the 20202021 FY, 23 sales happened under competitive bidding system in which securities certificates worth Ks10,739.48 billion. As deductions and redemptions amounted to Ks11,598 billion, the net sale amount was (-)Ks804.92 billion.
