Gov’t agrees to hold formal meeting with KIO

NAYPYITAW- Government had agreed to hold a formal meeting with Kachin Independence Organization(KIO) soon, says San Aung from Peace-talk Creation Group (PCG).

A delegation led by Khin Maung Tin, Vice-Chairman of National Reconciliation and Peace Center met with KIO’s representatives led by Major General Guan Maw at the Kunming, China, on January 21st and they agreed to hold a formal meeting. During the meeting, both sides discussed the military’s announcement of four-month ceasefire agreement and explained their remarks to each other. The formal meeting between NRPC and KIO will be building relations toward trust, according to the San Aung.

“We received the agreement for holding of a formal meeting. We are going to meet not only NRPC but also the military. The meeting will be held during early or mid February” said San Aung.

Government and KIO will hold the meetings for designated places and time for the formal meeting. But, the meeting will be held in Myanmar.

San Aung said that the formal meeting will be held in Nay Pyi Taw or Yangon so also other townships in the country.
