The Ministry of Information has announced that in addition to the eight original film-related businesses, the following activities must apply for a license, including renting film equipment, establishing online cinemas, and broadcasting films using applications.
In accordance with Article 419 of the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the State Administration Council enacted the Law No. 59/2024 on December 20, 2024 amending the Motion Picture Law.
In addition, the Ministry of Information, exercising the authority conferred under Section 49 Subsection (a) of the Motion Picture Law, has issued the Rules amending the Motion Picture Law by Notification No. 149/2025 on December 3, 2025 with the approval of the Union Government.
According to these rules, in addition to the eight original film-related businesses, the following activities must be carried out after applying for a business license from the Department of Information and Public Relations.
These activities include opening a film school, renting film equipment, providing film production services, establishing a film studio, providing film, sound and special effects, establishing an online cinema, broadcasting films using applications, broadcasting films using online platforms, etc.
Similarly, applications for new cinema licenses and extensions must be submitted to the relevant Union Territory (Nay Pyi Taw)/Region/State Information and Public Relations Departments, and for more information, the Ministry of Information announced that inquiries can be made further.
