The statue of General Aung San on horseback to be placed at Thabyegon Roundabout in Nay Pyi Taw is being erected and will be unveiled on the birthday of the Myanmar’s independence hero on February 13.

The statue, 18 feet in height and over six tons in weight, was convened to Nay Pyi Taw January 21.

"As we earlier announced, we will unveil General Aung San's statue on his birthday," said Min Thu, chairman of the committee for erecting the statue.

Dr Myint San, a retired professor from the University of National Culture and Fine Arts, said efforts had been made to make the statue attractive and graceful.

"Our Bogyoke (General) was not yet over 30 years old. We tried to cast the statue to retain that age. We had difficulty expressing his original personality. We wanted the statue to be graceful. All works are based on Myanmar tradition," he said.

The casting of General Aung San's bronze statue cost over K200 million.
