Former Yangon Region Social Affairs Minister U Naing Ngan Lin was sentenced to 15 years in prison on five corruption charges, according to reports.

U Naing Ngan Lin, who was charged with anti-corruption charges, has been sentenced 15 years prison term by a special court in Yangon's Insein Prison on April 28, according to reports.

Former Yangon Region Social Affairs Minister U Naing Ngan Lin has been sentenced to three years in prison for each corruption case, according to reports.

U Naing Ngan Lin was charged under anti-corruption law by receiving 18 million kyats and a set of TV and a karaoke machine worth about 800,000 kyats from a company owner who was awarded a building permit at Thingangyun College of Education and Yangon Western Technological University on January 5, 2021, while chairing the tender committee for the construction of educational facilities funded by the Yangon Region government, by receiving five million kyats and a gift basket worth about 50,000 kyats from the owner of the company who was allowed to build a school building in the National Management Degree College in the 2020-2021 FY on January 23, 2021 at his house, by receiving 2 million kyats from a company owner, who was allowed to build a building at Dagon University, in his office in December 2020, by receiving one million kyats from a company owner, who was licensed to build the South Dagon Technical Institute building, in his office in June 2020, while acting as chairman of the COVID-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee in Yangon Region, accepting an iPhone 12 Mini handset worth about 800,000 kyats from a company during an inspection trip of a private Quarantine Center for its employees on November 24, 2020.
