Former Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman and mayor Dr Myo Aung has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for five cases filed under anti-corruption laws, according to sources related with the cases.

Dr Myo Aung, who was charged under anti-corruption laws, was arraigned in a special court in Nay Pyi Taw Prison on June 22, according to reports.

Dr Myo Aung was sentenced to 15 years in prison on five counts of corruption and former Nay Pyi Taw Deputy Mayor U Ye Min Oo was sentenced to three years in prison on one count of corruption. U Min Thu, a former member of the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee, was sentenced to three years in prison on one count of corruption.

At present, Dr. Myo Aung, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Min Thu were charged with corruption in related with the allocation of 101.33 acres for the Layaung Taw Project being implemented by Daw Khin Kyi Foundation in Nay Pyi Taw and Dr. Myo Aung, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and former Deputy Mayor U Ye Min Oo have been charged with corruption for allocating 23.855 acres of land for a project carried out by the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation in Pobbathiri Township.

In addition, Dr. Myo Aung has been charged with corruption for allocating 96 plots of land in Nyanadipa ward, Pobbathiri Township and connecting of water pipeline, which lost the state more than 1,800 million kyats and the state lost over 780 million kyats due to the land level adjustment work on 96 plots of land that did not need to be done by the committee, according to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

He has been charged under anti-corruption laws for losing over 390 million kyats due to land level adjustment work on 35 plots of land near Htantabin Monastery in Dakkhinathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw that did not need to be done, for losing about 50 million kyats due to the sale of 0.75 acres of land on Moe Thauk Pan Road in Dakkhinathiri Township at 100 million kyats, which was given to a person to run a restaurant business, decided by the management meeting of the committee and for losing about 2,000 million kyats due to the sale of over five acres of land on the south side of Pyinmana-Taungnyo Road near the retired staff housing in Nay Pyi Taw Myoma Market to a company to open a shopping mall without being submitted to the President's Office, decided by the management meeting of the committee with 100 million kyats per acre for five acres of land.
