Foreign investment worth of more than US$ 362 million flows in Thilawa in 2018-2019 FY

Foreign invest volume reached more than US$ 362 million flowing into Thilawa Special Economic Zone from October 1 to the middle of September in 2018-2019 FY, said a source from Myanmar Investment Commission.

International ports and logistic activities are needed in order to extensively operate the factories in Thilawa Special Economic Zone, said Win Aung, President of Myanmar Thilawa SEZ Holdings Public Co., Ltd (MTSH).

Myanmar Thilawa SEZ Holdings Public Co., Ltd (MTSH) is a Multimodal Logistic Hub.

With the international development assistance from Japan, Thilawa Multipurpose International Terminal began the services together with the ceremony of concluding construction of the jetty on December 14 in 2018.

Toyota, one of the top companies in Japan, will manufacture autos by establishing Toyota Myanmar Company Ltd with the investment of US$ 52.6 million. Starting from 2012, Toyota Myanmar will manufacture 2,500 units of Toyota Hilux a year.

Toyota’s investment in Myanmar will attract the foreign companies to invest in Thilawa SEZ to produce machine and auto parts necessary for the manufacturing of Toyota cars and that related business could be created, said Win Aung.

Myanmar has three special economic zones. Out of them, Thilawa possesses good economic opportunities and it is developing steadily as it is a key place. A total of 108 companies from 19 countries have made investments in Thilawa SEZ, said Dr Than Myint, Union Minister for Commerce.
