NAYPYIDAW- Phyo Min Thein, a loyalist of Daw Aung San Su Kyi who served as Yangon Region Chief Minister for the government of the National League of Democracy from 2016 to 2020, appeared in court today to testify as witness for the ruling military against State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, according to Daw Su’s lawyer U Khin Maung Zaw. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi appeared in court today for the charges against her under the anti-corruption law.

The court hearing for the State Counsellor charged with corruption started at the special court in the Nay Pyi Taw Council area today (October 1st).

“A civilian witness was brought here. The case file didn’t mention who the civilian witness was. Upon arrival, we learned that U Phyo Min Thein was the civilian witness testifying on behalf of the plaintiff. He testified as he did in the video clip released at the (State Administrative Council’s) press conference. He said which car he used to come (to Daw Su’s house). He mentioned the instances when he gave (the alleged bribes) to Daw Aung San Su for the first time, second time and third time. What’s strange is that he also handed her a Buddha statue made of gold as a gift from the Venerable Maing Phone Sayadaw. But, the complaint doesn’t include that. In the next hearing, there will be cross-examination for the plaintiff and U Phyo Min Thein,” said defendant lawyer U Khin Maung Zaw.

The civilian witness and witness for the plaintiff U Phyo Min Thein was questioned for the corruption charges against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at the court today after his video confession that he bribed her in the form of gold and US dollars.

Five high-profile corruption complaints have been filed at Mandalay Region High Court—three against the State Counsellor, one against Dr. Myo Aung and U Ye Min Oo and one against President U Win Myint and State Counselor, said the team of defendant lawyers
