Five including NLD’s MP, some police killed in bomb blast in Pyay

Five people including regional parliamentary representative of the National League for Democracy Thet Hlaing Win and some policemen participating in the CDM (civil disobedience movement) have died in a bomb blast in Kanbila Village, Zeeok Village-tract, Pyay Township, western Bago Region, according to local villagers.

The blast occurred at about 5 pm on May 3 killing the MP, two policemen and a local villager on the spot.

“The bomb blew off in the evening. The incident happened when U Thet Hlaing Win was in hiding. The police participating in the CDM died as well. Another severely wounded policeman died in hospital,” said a local villager.

 The dead bodies were sent to Pyay General Hospital and one more severely wounded policeman is in hospital, villagers said.

Initially, it was supposed to be a parcel bomb, but this could not be confirmed because investigation had yet to be made, they commented.

Kanbila Village, about five miles from the town of Pyay, can be accessible by Pyay-Mandalay Road.

Those killed in the bomb blast were cremated at about 4.30 pm on May 4.

Four towns in Bago Region (West) also experienced a series of explosions on May 3, locals said. The explosions occurred at about 3 pm in the townships of Kyobinkauk, Nattalin, Paungde and Thegon.
