Fire destroys building after overheated power outlet sparks blaze in Mandalay

A temporary power outlet placed on a mattress to charge a phone overheated and caused a fire to break out in the mattress underneath a 35-foot × 20-foot, corrugated iron, single-story building located between 39D and 39E streets in Maha Aung Myay Township, Mandalay, at around 7:30 am. on October 10, according to the Myanmar Fire Department.

The fire destroyed the 35-foot × 20-foot, corrugated iron, single-story building, its contents, and two motorcycles. The fire was extinguished by a Level-1 fire brigade with 30 firefighters, 70 auxiliary firefighters, 10 fire engines, 5 water tankers.  Three fire engines were used to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control at around 7:42 a.m. and completely extinguished at around 7:46 a.m.

A case has been opened against a 22-year-old male worker at the No. 9 Police Station in connection with the fire.
