A fire broke out on the morning of September 18 at a Linle shop and a wooden house on Aye Tharyar (4) Street, Ward No. 4, in Myawaddy, Karen State. Both the shop and house, which share the same owner, were locked at the time of the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

According to residents, an explosion was heard before the fire started in the back room of the shop. “People came out of their homes but didn’t know what to do. The shop was closed, and the owners weren’t there,” a local resident said. The shop reportedly relied on 24-hour solar power, but the exact source of the blaze remains unclear.

Firefighters from the Myawaddy District and City Fire Departments, supported by water tankers, rushed to the scene and managed to bring the flames under control by around 8:20 a.m. “The fire trucks arrived quickly, and the roads made access easy. Otherwise, the fire could have spread, since the houses are very close together,” another resident noted.

Police have summoned the shop and house owner for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
