An explosion occurred this morning (September 16) outside Yangon City Hall in Kyauktada Township, Yangon Region, according to reports.

The incident happened at around 6:40 a.m. near the entrance on Sule Pagoda Road, outside the City Hall compound, where a barrier gate had been set up.

“The blast happened at the City Hall entrance on the Sule Pagoda side. No one was injured. The road wasn’t blocked and traffic wasn’t restricted. It has been reopened,” said a local resident living nearby.

Some exile media outlets reported that the explosion was carried out by a group calling itself the Freeland Attack Force (FLA).

Previously, on July 30, 2022, two people threw hand grenades near the entrance gate at the back of City Hall on Sibin Street, causing an explosion. Three security personnel, a municipal worker, and a female pedestrian — five people in total — were injured.

Similarly, on June 4, 2021, two explosions occurred near Maha Bandula Park in front of Yangon City Hall.
