The explosion took place near the old checkpoint on Yangon-Nyaungdon Road in No.3 Ward, Aung Zeya Bridge, Hlaingthaya Township about 7:30 am on December 7, according to residents.

No one was injured in the blast, which took place near the old checkpoint used by Yangon City Development Committee.

"I heard a loud bang early in the morning. I though it is a sound of the tire popping. Later I learned that a homemade bomb exploded at the old checkpoint. Now it is not functioning and no one stayed at there. But sometimes some policemen and soldiers are seen at the checkpoint,” said a resident of Ward 3 in Hlaingthaya Township.

In addition, another explosion occurred in front of Kanthaya Park on Thudamma Road in Ward T, North Okkalapa Township on December 6 at around 4 pm, according to the residents.
