MANDALAY-Under the First Internship Program, jointly organized by the European Union (EU) and the Ministry of Education, bio-diversity and environmental conservation tasks are being carried out at shallows in central Myanmar.

The subjects of bio-diversity and natural environment and ground survey are included in the program. It will also include the importance of conserving bio-diversity and eco-systems as well as specific steps such as the handover of wild birds.

“The Universities in Mandalay, Myeik, and Mawlamyaing under the Ministry of Education and three Universities from EU such as Spain, Germany, and Austria jointly carried out the First Internship Program. The program aims to promote the subjects concerning Bio-diversity conservation in Myanmar. We, Myanmar Bird and Nature Society, are going to participate in the practical works on the biodiversity and nature conservation activities. In this program, our first priority is to survey the Paleik Inn (Lake) in Tada-U Township of Mandalay Region which is one of the swallow regions. Moreover, we are going to survey the livelihoods of the locals and habitation of winter birds including wildfowl,” said Dr. Thein Aung, Chairman of Myanmar Bird and Nature Society.

“EU opens the training of First Internship Program 2019. In this training, we conduct about the facts of shallow regions. And then, we discuss the law of wild animals and conservation of the birds. We also discuss how to protect and conserve the shallow regions and their importance. Moreover, we shared in our knowledge of shallow regions around the world,” said Director Zaw Win Myint from the Forest Department, Mandalay Region.

Most of the migratory birds come to the Mandalay Region’s Paleik, Pyu, Thu Nge Daw, Taungthaman and Yay Myat Gyi Lakes in early December and typically feed there till mid-March.

At least 10 wetland areas need the conservation in central Myanmar, including Sont Ye Lake, Pyu Lake, Paleik Lake, Manaw Lake, and Taungthaman Lake.
