The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, stated that collective efforts are necessary to successfully hold elections and that voters should choose candidates who can genuinely serve the interests of their region and the nation.
The Senior General made these remarks during a meeting with officers, soldiers, and their families at the Kengtung Station in the Triangle Region Command on the afternoon of May 23.
He emphasized that after the elections, the Union-level and regional parliaments must convene to ensure the successful functioning of the legislative bodies. He stressed the importance of all stakeholders working together to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections and urged voters to select candidates who can truly contribute to the development of their regions and the country.
The military, he added, will continue to play a foundational role in national development, ensuring the success of the elections, and maintaining stability and peace.
The SAC Chairman noted that, in accordance with the constitution, the military had taken responsibility for the state, making it imperative to hold a multiparty democratic general election. Preparations, including a census, are underway to conduct the elections as soon as possible.
To ensure a clean election, efforts are being made to enable voting through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which will minimize errors in voter lists.
He mentioned that a multiparty democratic general election is planned for the end of this year. The military had to assume state responsibilities under the 2008 Constitution due to electoral fraud in the 2020 general election.
When the military initially took charge, political disagreements led to protests, which later escalated into violent acts.
