More than 830 million kyats’ worth of narcotic drugs were seized in Insein and Shwepyitha townships, Yangon Region, according to the Anti-Narcotics Task Force.
Acting on a tipoff, an anti-drug squad was waiting at 7.30pm on 16 June at the corner of Pyidawtha Road (1) and Lower Mingaladon Main Road, Danyingon ward, Insein Township, Htoo Khant Naung, Pyae Sone Kyaw Min and Hein Khin Zaw arrived riding two motorcycles. When they were stopped and searched, they were found together with 467,000 stimulant pills.
At about 1am on 17 June the house on Yawmingyi road (8/4) ward, Shwepyithar Township, rented by Pyae Sone Kyaw Min was searched and 290,000 stimulant tablets and 3 kilos of Ice (methamphetamine) were seized. In total 757,000 stimulant tablets and three kilos of Ice worth over 830 million kyats were seized.
According to further investigation, the seized drugs were to be sold to young people in KTV rooms, clubs, bars and restaurants in Yangon. Legal action will be taken against the perpetrators of the crime, and further investigation is going on to find others linked to the crime, according to the Anti-Narcotics Task Force.
