DAWEI- Tanintharyi Region celebrated the 2nd Dawei National Day Anniversary at the Cultural Museum along Strand Road yesterday morning.

The ceremony also includes Dawei traditional sporting events, Boat- Rowing competition and traditional dance entertainment program.

It was attended by over 70 monks and about 500 people.

“We formally opened the ceremony yesterday morning. Later, we read out the messages sent by the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, the Union Parliament Speaker, lower-house speaker, Dawei Associations from Thailand and Mandalay. Later, we read out the history of Dawei National Day ceremony. The first session of the ceremony was adjourned at about 9:30 am and those attendees viewed around the museum. The union minister and party enjoyed the lunch and Dawei Traditional Boat-Rowing ceremony was held at noon. Later, the ceremony was closed after releasing the hot air balloons,” said Secretary Aung Myo of the Observance Committee of Dawei National Day.

The Dawei National Day event is a grand scale compared to the previous year. All Dawei national living across the country also participated in the celebration. It is the main strength of the Dawei National, says Secretary Aung Myo.

Dawei traditional dances and sports games were held in the second session while attendees were served with Dawei traditional foods.

Dawei National Conference was held in Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region, on November 18th and 19th of 2017. The conference decided to designate the date as the Dawei National Day which falls on 1st Waning of Natdaw. Likewise, flags and stamp had been marked on that day.

The Dawei ethnic communities are mostly found in Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region with a population between 400,000 and 500,000. If the Dawei people from abroad and other far-flung areas will be added, the population amount may increase.
