Covid-19 cases total 243 after a returnee from Italy tests positive

A returnee from Italy has tested positive for Covid-19 bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 243 in Myanmar, the Ministry of Health and Sports reported at 8 am on June 8.

A total of 897 samples were tested in the second batch for June 7—536 by the National Health Laboratory (Yangon), 255 by Public Health Laboratory (Mawlamyine) and 79 by No (1) Defence Services Hospital (1000-bed)—and one new more case was confirmed.

The patient is a 35-year-old man living in Thingangyun Township, Yangon Region. He has a history of travel to Italy.

In the first batch for June 7, 1,200 samples were tested and two new Covid-19 cases were confirmed, the ministry reported.

So far, Myanmar has seen 243 Covid-19 cases and six deaths.
