Around 30 people staged a protest against the countries and organizations which filed the case against Myanmar with the intention of tarnishing the dignity of Myanmar, in front of Mahabandoola Park in Yangon on November 25.

Magway Monastery Sayadaw U Parmaukkha who led the protest said: “They file cases against Myanmar through creating fabrications. Gambia is a member of the OIC. Gambia’s charge against Myanmar amounts to tarnishing Myanmar’s dignity and causing a threat to the country’s sovereignty. Their first point is to turn northern Rakhine State into a Muslim state. The second is to abolish the citizenship law. The third is to issue citizenship card to Bengalis. They are intentionally trying to tarnish the dignity of Myanmar in the international arena, claiming that Myanmar commits genocide. This protest aims to show Myanmar does not commit genocide.”

He supported and welcomed the State Counsellor’s efforts to defend the case filed against Myanmar. He also called on all citizens to show their opposition to the case filed at the ICJ, through unity.

Activists chanted: “Oppose the OIC member countries which stand by Bengali terrorists called “ARSA”, “Take action against the ARSA which killed security members and ethnics”,  “Oppose those who support terrorism”, “Oppose the OIC which files the case against Myanmar at the ICJ” and Don’t want the OIC which encourages terrorism.”

A similar event was held in Monywa in Sagaing Region, in order to show support for State Counsellor and Foreign Affairs Minister Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who will lead the efforts to defend the case filed by Gambia at the ICJ.
