Aye Yar, one of Myanmar’s famous comedians, has died in hospital while he was receiving treatment after being infected with Covid-19.

He had been receiving treatment at Yangon General Hospital after he was infected with Covid-19 on December 1. He then died in hospital this morning after his worsening situation.

Upon his death, film stars expressed their condolences by writing sad notes.

“I feel very sorry for the death of Ko Aye Yar as does his bereaved family. His death is a loss to the movie industry. He always tried to make people laugh,” said Aye Kyu Lay, vice chairman of Myanmar Motion Picture Organization.

Actor Phyo Ngwe Soe also expressed his condolences on Facebook. He said: “I had a lot of memories of U Aye Yar. If life after death existed, I know he with his baldness would still become a comedian. As he said, everything we see is jokes. But now it’s not a joke.”

Aye Yar had acted as a comedian for decades in a lot of movies and videos.

Since before he contracted Covid-19, he had to frequently receive treatment for his underlying health conditions.

The 61-year-old comedian was survived by his children and grandchildren.
