Since its formation till September 9, the Lower House Committee for Citizens' Fundamental Rights had received 2,621 complaints, most of which are related to violations of citizen rights and human rights.

"Those complaints are about the issues of women, children, child soldiers and firing of workers. There were over 2,000 complaints," said U Saw, chairman of the committee and MP from Nyaung-U Township.

A roundtable discussion on work progress of the committee was held on September 10. The discussion was made by the chairman, the secretary and one member of the committee, state-run newspapers reported.

U Saw said complaints directly addressed to the committee would be prioritized, followed by those coming through relevant ministries and organizations. He stressed the need for a complainer to submit address, national registration card copy and signature.

Lower House  MP Win Myint Aung said some of the complaints were also related to land grabbing.

"As human rights issues are delicate, cooperation of the committee as well as all the citizens is necessary," he said.

The committee was established on February 26, 2016.
