Chinese medics leave Yangon

YANGON-As Chinese medics who fight against the COVID-19 in Myanmar successfully completed their operation, they left Yangon yesterday, according to the announcement by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.

They were seen off at the Yangon International Airport by Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar and embassy staff and Professor Dr Zaw Than Tun, Director General of Medical Research under the Ministry of Health and Sports.

Dr Myint Htwe, Union Minister of Health and Sports, who instructed the combating against the deadly COVID-19 virus, thanked the Chinese medical expert team through a video conference.

The health Union Minister said that Myanmar thanked China for sending the medical expert team. China’s experiences and measures were worth learning. Lab test facilities provided by China helped promote the lab skills for prevention, control and test and treatment of COVID-19. He also believed thanks to China’s assistance, Myanmar would succeed in controlling COVID-19 swiftly and fighting it.

A 12-member Chinese medical expert team which will help Myanmar in the fight against the COVID-19, arrived in Yangon on the morning of April 8.

The Chinese medical team is formed with the medical experts from Yunnan Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, Kunming Medical University No.2 Hospital and Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Yunnan Province. 

While staying in Myanmar, the team visited 43 places including medical treatment teams, laboratories and quarantine centers in Yangon and Mandalay Regions.

The team also held the talks with health departments from relevant states and regions during the video conference as well as they trained over 400 people.

The medical team also donated 5.3 tons of medical supplies to Myanmar.
