BAGO- Thirty two Chinese citizens working at factories in Bago Industrial Zones were quarantined and will be monitored for two weeks as they returned from China on January 28th, after celebrating the Chinese New Year Festival.

The information came from Hein Htet, Secretary of Bago Industrial Zone Committee yesterday evening said at the meeting with officials from Bago Regional Committees and factories concerning preventative measures against ongoing 2019 Novel Coronavirus.

“There are about 200 Chinese workers in the Bago industrial zone. Among them, 32 workers returned back to Myanmar from their country since January 28th. So, we keep them[Chinese citizens] in quarantine and providing healthcare services. We are going to monitor them for two weeks. In the Bago Industrial Zone, there are over 90,000 workers and hundreds of workers are working at the factory. So, 32 Chinese workers have been held in an isolation room while undergoing treatment. We are now using the method for preventative measures against the deadly coronavirus,” said Hein Htet.

“The Bago Industrial Zone Committee requested us to make the diagnosis of coronavirus for 32 Chinese workers. But, no one was sent to Wabargi Hospital in Yangon[ which specializes in infectious diseases] for treatment. Those returnees didn’t come from Wuhan. I was speaking with those Chinese workers and they didn’t show any symptoms of the infectious disease. All are stable,” said Dr Thin Thin Hlaing, Assistant Director from Bago Region Health Department.

Bago Region Government Committee had formed the team including directors and officials from the Health Department, private hospitals and Industrial Zones on January 27th aiming to prevent measures against the deadly coronavirus. Plans were underway to negotiate with the foreigners to avoid the problems. At present, there are 32 Chinese workers coming back to Bago from China and there was no suspect, according to Immigration Minister Tun Tun Oo from Bago Region.
