China shows its willingness to continue cooperation in education and social fields: Chinese Ambassador

As Myanmar has reached a transition period and turning point in its development sector, China is willing to continue cooperation in education and social fields, said Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Chen Hai. 

The Chinese Embassy issued a press release in which the ambassador made the remark at a ceremony to start granting a scholarship programme in Yangon on December 9.

The ambassador also said China supports and encourages efforts to turn out more brilliant citizens by promoting the contact and cooperation with universities and schools in Myanmar including Yangon University in order to further cement the bilateral friendship.   

The granting of scholarships by the Bank of China reflects the dynamism of its social and public welfare activities in Myanmar, he added. 

The ceremony was also attended by Daw Than Than Swe, governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar.

She praised the Bank of China (Yangon Branch) for its active participation in Myanmar-China cooperation and support for Myanmar’s economic and financial development endeavours.

The scholarship programme is annually granted by the Bank of China and scholarships are provided for 100 students from Yangon University. Plans have been made to provide such assistance until the students finish their studies, according to the statement.
