VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) - Members of the China Chamber of Commerce in Laos gathered in Vientiane recently to review past outcomes and adopt a charter for the chamber.

The first meeting of China Chamber of Commerce in Laos was attended by more than 80 members of the chamber and the executive board.

At the same time, the Ambassador of China to Laos, Mr Jiang Zaidong and President of China Chamber of Commerce in Laos Mr Huang Yande jointly opened the new Lao-China Chamber of Commerce.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Huang Yande said since the establishment of the China Chamber of Commerce in Laos, the Chinese Embassy in Laos, leaders from relevant Lao government agencies and allied friends have always supported the chamber. Meanwhile, the China Chamber of Commerce in Laos has built and maintained relations with relevant sectors of Laos and China and also supported the work of members with continuous growth.

The Chamber had paid attention to taking care of its social affairs and responsibilities between the two countries for a long time, he added.

“In October, under the leadership of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, the China Chamber of Commerce in Laos launched a donation initiative for flood and drought disaster relief among companies invested by China, members of the Chamber and parts of society. This donation initiative has received attention from various sectors of society and was able to raise 340 million kip. The money was used to buy rice to give to places of disaster, for which the government has expressed sincere gratitude,” Mr Huang Yande said.

During the floods in the south of Laos, the China Chamber of Commerce in Laos provided immediate assistance.

In addition, the chamber organised a Chinese hero-worship ceremony in Oudomxay province, screened patriotic films for some Chinese agencies, joined activities to celebrate the 70th China anniversary, and arranged a check and advice session on cooperation project lists for poverty reduction in Laos.

All of these activities showed the Lao government the exemplary standing of the Chamber of Commerce in Laos. In the future, the Chamber will continue to carry out its duties responsibly and work with members and the Lao people to help each other, he added.
